Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

Last night I sat down in a very unairconditioned theater room to watch the new Star Trek movie Into Darkness, now I will warn you for readers who haven't seen the movie yet I will do my best not to post any spoilers here so I am sorry if you go about reading any of this and find out something you didn't because of this blog. So on to my review!

I thought the opening of Into Darkness was a bit cheesy yet appropriate for a movie sequel such as Star Trek, though it had a bit of a future Indiana Johns feel to start the movie off. Most if not all of the cast from the original Star Trek reboot film of 2009 returned to replay their roles in the film which is a huge plus in my books, mainly because I hate feeling out a new actor/actress in a role that was already established by some one else in earlier films. So this means Chris Pine once again plays Capt Krik, Zachary Quinto dons the role of Spock once again, Karl Urban gets to play more doctor as Bones  and "Beam Me Up Scotty!" Simon Pegg returns to the film to play a big role in this films climax. All in all the cast once again works their roles perfectly and I felt like a child again while watching the movie yet still had the original cast in the back of my mind replaying all the old tv shows in my head. This movie was a thrill ride through and through and even in the uneventful parts of the film I still found myself at the edge of my seat waiting for something to happen or someone to reveal something, the only part of the movie I was remotely disappointing with was towards the end of the film. All I am willing to say about the end of the film is they did not to a very good job at hiding the end result of Kirk's fate but other than that the  rest of the movie was great. I was very pleased with Peter Weller (Marcus) and Bruce Greenwood's (Pike) performances as well but I have to say my favorite actor in the whole movie would have to be Benedict Cumberbatch (try saying that name five times fast...) role as the movies antagonist. I wont go into much of who he played but I will say I was extremely happy with the way they not only introduced his character into the movie but he just played the role exactly how I would have expected a "new age" version of the character would be if these events were to happen in reality. The movie itself is about 2 hours long and though movies now a days feel rather short while you watch them I did feel like I was sitting in the room forever, though it might have been the heat in the room I still have to say I enjoyed myself through and through and I am glad I made the decision to see Into Darkness over the other futuristic movie in theaters Will Smith's After Earth film that released this past Friday. So after this my whole mini rant on this film I have to recommend anyone who either loves a good Star Trek film or even loves a good action thriller movie to go see this film I thought it was great and I will be buying it when it comes out on Blu-ray. So in closing I would like to leave you all with my rating on this film and it will go the same for any film/video game I review on this blog.

I give Star Trek Into Darkness an 8/10 for its cast and story line and I would recommend going to see it in theaters before you miss the chance!
